Mid/South County Roving Housing Resource Program
First begun in 1996, the Mid/South County Roving Housing Resource Program
for homeless and domestic violence shelters is a joint endeavor between
Eden I&R and several existing local shelters and transitional housing
programs. Working together we were able to establish a new way by which
these sites could make use of Eden I&R's extensive knowledge regarding
the housing market and the many services related to obtaining housing.
After much careful analysis, we created a position, referred to as the
Roving Housing Resource Specialist (Rover), wherein a staff person would
work in collaboration with other agencies' clients at both homeless shelters
and domestic violence shelters in Middle and Southern Alameda County on
a regular basis.
The primary focus of the program was placed on housing individuals and
families who are homeless through the use of Eden I&R's housing database.
In addition to the one-on-one case management that the Rover is able to
provide, the program also conducts housing seminars. These have focused
on housing related topics ranging from the best way to go about signing
up for subsidized housing to the essential elements of a successful interview
with a prospective landlord.
